Zoo Oasis Wildlife
The zoo and rescue station in the south of the island in the town of La Lajita is known primarily for its focus on the protection and preservation of endangered animal species, especially those typical of African and Canary fauna.
I must say, this Zoo really impressed me. From the staff, who are everywhere, you can feel their interest in animal care. When they take care of them, they do it with love, and in many programs that the park offers, they share their experiences and care through lectures and demonstrations to both adults and small children.
Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura strives to educate the public about the protection of endangered species and their habitats. Moreover, they try to ensure the most natural environment possible.
You will find over 3,000 animals of 230 species that roam freely over an area of 800,000 m².
You will see giraffes, crocodiles, sea lions, various birds and parrots, hippos, but also cheetahs or elephants. There is really a lot to see.
The whole zoo is perfectly baby-friendly, accessible even with a stroller. You will also find nice playgrounds in the shade with rest areas for parents, where you can have a snack from home or refresh yourself at one of the many snack stands.
🦥 Program and Shows
An Experience for Children and Adults? Feeding Giraffes.
A great experience for our children, but I admit even for me, was feeding the giraffes. We bought bags of carrots and apples at the ticket office. Yes, the price of 3 euros per bag is the price for the experience when their rough purple tongue licks you.
If feeding giraffes is not enough for you, you can also feed camels nearby, but be careful, a moment of inattention and the bag of hay is gone. They are always hungry and cheeky towards visitors.
Sea Lion Show
During our visit to the zoo, we attended a sea lion show. It’s included in the admission, you don’t pay anything extra, just check in advance what time it starts. Usually, the show takes place several times a day.
If you sit in the front rows, expect to get wet.
Instructors in wetsuits whistle at the sea lions, pat them in various ways, and the sea lions slide down slides and let themselves be fed fish as a reward.
They are well-coordinated, water splashes everywhere, but it’s really fun. For the brave, special lessons of swimming and playing with sea lions were also held during our visit. Currently, they are listed on the website as temporarily out of service.
Camel Safari
Another thing you can do is a camel safari. However, the safari is not included in the admission. This didn’t really appeal to us, so we don’t have personal experience, but there were plenty of enthusiasts at the camel stop.
The camel safari takes you to a lookout point above the sea. Another option is a camel ride in the zoo to the elephant enclosure.
🌵 Botanical Garden
There is also the largest botanical garden of cacti, succulents, and tropical plants in all of Europe!
In the area of the cactus and tropical plant garden, there are more than 2,300 different species of plants, a really large number, right? And the total number of pieces approaches 30,000.
Thanks to the climate, cacti thrive really well here. At first, I was afraid that looking at cacti would be a bit boring, but in the end, we spent quite a lot of time here and marveled at how many and what kinds of species there can be.
⏳ Opening Hours
They are open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 to 18:00. We recommend being there at 9:00, we were there with the kids all day and at the end, we found out that we could have used a bit more time.
I recommend finding out and planning in advance what you would like to see. A map will help you with that. We didn’t plan much in advance and just missed some programs by a bit.
Download the area map here.
A show with parrots or feeding hippos is really great, and even we adults were amazed. The whole show and feeding were conducted with regard and respect for the animals, no disrespectful circus performance.
As a bonus, you will learn a lot of interesting things about the animals. Did you know, for example, that hippos are herbivores, mostly solitary, and also that they are an endangered species due to the loss of their natural habitat, hunting, and conflicts with humans?
You can check the times of individual animal shows on this page.
🎟️ Tickets
A visit to Oasis Park is a very enjoyable but also quite financially demanding affair. The admission alone is not small, and if you add feeding the giraffes, some refreshments, or perhaps an additional program, the total amount can climb quite high.
Even so, I would highly recommend visiting this zoo.
You can purchase tickets to the park in advance at this link. By buying tickets in advance, you can save a few euros and also avoid the queue at the zoo entrance.
The ticket price also depends on whether you want only basic admission or if you also want to buy a camel ride, walk among the lemurs, or swim with the sea lions.

🚗 Transportation
Oasis Park is located in the south of the island, near the town of La Lajita (Link to Google Maps). If you don’t have a rented car, don’t worry. You can get to Oasis Park from almost every corner of the island comfortably by their shuttle bus.
Own car: If you drive on the main road of Fuerteventura (FV2), you can’t miss Oasis Park.
On the FV2 road between Tarajalejo and Costa Calma, there is a section where the central reservation is planted with colorful flowers and where you can see many palms, green bushes, and trees on both sides of the road. Unseen in Fuerteventura. Here is the Oasis Park in La Lajita. There is also a huge colorful sign showing the way.
Parking is right at the zoo entrance.
Shuttle bus: You can comfortably reserve the number of seats on the bus in advance at this link.
Note there are two lines. One from the north and one from the south of the island.
Don’t forget to check the correct pick-up location according to the timetable, including the return journey. The approximate arrival at the park is at 10:30 am and return at 4:30 pm depending on where you live.
The ticket costs 5 euros per person. Children under 3 years old travel for free.
The travel time from the airport to the park is approximately 50 minutes. For example, from the popular resort of Costa Calma or directly from the R2 Pajara Beach hotel, you can get here by bus in about 12 minutes.
💡 Tips on What Not to Forget

- if you plan to use the shuttle bus, don’t forget to reserve a seat
- want to save on admission, book tickets online
- sunscreen, head covering - lots of sun everywhere
- if you go to the zoo on Sunday, don’t forget the farmers’ markets
👎 Disadvantages of Visiting Oasis Park
- ticket prices are quite high
- at the end of the zoo is a botanical garden, which is always uphill
- if you live in the north of the island, the journey is quite long
👩🌾 Traditional Farmers’ Markets
Every Sunday between 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, a traditional “farmers’ market” with a lot of homemade products and goods is held in the zoo’s parking lot.
You can buy flowers, pastries, jams, various juices, sauces, fresh fruit, vegetables, traditional goat cheeses.
There will also be Aloe vera products, various paintings, jewelry, and much more.
We can recommend the park with a clear conscience to all age categories, especially families with children.
Tours of this fantastic semi-jungle, activities, shows, and especially the animals will make the visit an unforgettable memory for the whole family.

A great lover of endless beaches, the sound of oceans, goat cheese, paella, sangria, and sunsets. The only thing I miss here is my favorite specialty coffee. I have been to the island 5 times already and hopefully, I will get there again soon. I work as a PPC consultant, I love coffee, books, and write a food blog.
